Jan Braun (1926–2015)
Polish Sumerologist · General and Comparative Linguist
Jan Nepomucen Józef Braun was a Polish scholar of Sumerian, general linguistics and comparative linguistics. In his comparative work, Braun challenged the classification of Sumerian as a language isolate and proposed a genetic relationship between Sumerian and the Tibeto-Burman languages. In its strongest form, his proposal placed Sumerian within a Tibeto-Burman linguistic family. This page preserves the work as a historically important scholarly proposal rather than presenting the classification as a settled consensus.
