Xu Jiang-wei (徐江伟) (1958–)
Chinese Independent Historical Writer
Xu Jiang-wei (徐江伟) is a Chinese independent historical writer whose books offer a heterodox reconstruction of the origins of Huaxia civilization. Working across early writing, myth, nomadic culture, religion and the cultural geography of the Tibetan Plateau, he challenges conventional narratives centred exclusively on the Central Plains.
The defining argument running through Xu’s work is that important foundations of Huaxia civilization originated in the Tibetan Plateau and in early Bon traditions. His books develop this thesis through interpretations of Chinese characters, ancestral myths, the Quanrong, pastoral culture and the historical relationship between plateau and lowland societies. The collection presents this as Xu’s authorial hypothesis rather than as settled scholarly consensus.
