A dynamic 6000-year genetic history of Eurasia's Eastern Steppe

The highest-status individual in the Khanate burials

Y‑chromosome distribution across social classes in the Mongol Khanate period (13th–15th centuries).

The study covers 65 individuals, of whom 37 are male. Only 7 of the samples yielded radiocarbon data precise enough to date them directly; the rest can only be placed broadly within the Mongol Empire period (13th–15th centuries).

The highest-status individual is the male numbered TAH002, whose social rank is Noble. His burial, however, differs from other Mongol burials of the same period — he is suspected to have been a religious leader of foreign origin.
